ABOUT THE BOTTESINI "GRANDI DUETTI" CONCERT
LA MONNAIE, 3rd January 2014

Hi Korneel, I really enjoyed your bravura performance today - inspiring!! Secretly, i was hoping for the B minor concerto as an encore.... ;-)
Best, K
(Kevin Conru, bassist and art dealer)

(Alain Selhorst, guitarist)

Your concert was a breath of fresh air!
(David Miller, composer)

(Hugo Van Mol, musician)

Bravo Korneel! Quelle prouesse!
(Youen Cadiou, bassist)

ABOUT OUR DVD "FROM BRUSSELS WITH LOVE",
produced in 2013
This unique DVD deserves every praise from the author of this portal for its unique conception and featured material. Korneel Le Compte is one of the rare multifaceted bassists who stands firmly both in the modern orchestra bass field - as the principal bass of the La Monnaie Opera in Brussels - and at the forefront of the period performance scene as a soloist pioneer in the Viennese Bass field.
Yet all these qualifications are surpassed with this DVD where we also witness his ability to produce a top level documentary DVD featuring both a scholarly discussion of the modern period practice, and the Viennese Bass field - which is ilustrated with top level performances of some of the most difficult and representative pieces from the repertoire.
Featured on this DVD is a cross-section of the repertoire performed with Korneel's ensembles Duo Sweet 17 and Ensemble PQBM from their recent concert activity - and commented with all the details one would wish to hear and see when studying Viennese bass technique and period musical interpretation. How much effort and personal sacrifice was spent to prepare, record and assemble this lovely DVD package is probably known only to the authors of this DVD themselves. Bravo indeed and best wishes on any future projects too!
(Dr. Igor Pecevski, researcher and bassist)

Alles Gute weiter. Herzlich.
(Prof. Dr. Klaus Trumpf, bass virtuoso and teacher)

(Frank Wittich, bassist)

ABOUT OUR CONCERT AT THE CREMONA VIOLIN MAKER'S EXHIBITION, september 2013

Magnifique.
(Patrick Charton, luthier)

ABOUT THE "PER QUESTA BELLA MANO" ARIA,
YouTube video

Great playing, great sound, Korneel ! And it's a nice show element with the singer arriving just in time. Best wishes.
(Gregor Schaefer, bassist)

Hey bass players! Check out this amazing performance of Mozart Per Questa Bella Mano! Authentic tuning, gut strings, but 1st class performance! Kudos to our European friends!
(Barry Green, bass virtuoso and artist)

Lieber Korneel, vielen Dank - ich habe mir angeschaut. Grosse Gratulation! Bravo. Herzlich. Klaus aus Potsdam.
(Prof. Dr. Klaus Trumpf, bass virtuoso and teacher)

Cher Korneel! Bravississimo!
(Daniel Gazon, conductor)

ABOUT THE CD "ALIVE", CONCERTS AND OTHER YOUTUBE VIDEOS

Genieten!
(Chris Carlier, jazz musician)

Thank you so much for the CD. It arrived today, and simply I cannot stop listening. I am going over and over through the entire CD. You both are exceptional musicians, this CD is simply marvelous, it has a soul. Bravissimo!!

I got your CD yesterday. I listened. I was very impressed. I listened to it today again and i wrote a review in superlatives, the way i haven't done in a long time. I don't know what you did in the recording i.e. - how "rough" or not it was, but it was simply the way i would have done it myself if i could have. All you mentioned in your side pamphlets was clearly audible to me ! Please relate my best regards to Haruko on her contribution as well. Bravo to you both - you have my strongest applause!
(Dr. Igor Pecevski, bassist and researcher)

Although this listing already contains a number of high quality recordings demonstrating top levels of artistry and virtuosity, I was particularly happy to review this CD, as it brings this rare feel of chamber intimacy through very clean, yet also very musical playing - a feat that is often most difficult to achieve.
This recording is also unique in the sense that all pieces are period, yet rearranged in some way to mimic the period style. The two Ariosti sonatas were most likely not composed for the Viennese bass, and the Sperger sonata (originally intended for Viennese bass) does not feature Viola d'Amore in the original. Yet, the overall effect is very honest, enlightening and pleasing - in the aesthetic way that I envision would have been truly enjoyed in the 18th century.
The venue that produced the CD is called "Rough Records", implying that the straight recording takes that keep the spirit of the interpretation are preferred to those full of computer edits, that are all too common in modern productions. Yet I believe a better term would be "Nice Records" as the effect is anything but "rough".
Moreover, the overall production and sound quality are so good that I would openly recommend this recording to the general music public in need of relaxed listening - the exact type for which the featured compositions were conceived at the period. This CD is perfectly suitable for all commercial broadcasts, but also for playing in public spaces where some calm may be desired.
To conclude, this is an excellent recording featuring a very transparent sound of both instruments at its best. Viola d'Amore color may on occasion be perceived as even brighter of the regular viola, and the bass in Ariosti appears to have been played often in the 8 foot range that can not overpower the viola d'amore timbre. Korneel and Haruko play superbly here, and not only to satisfy some imaginary "period" standard, but for us today to enjoy. Bravo and Congratulations!
(Dr. Igor Pecevski)

J'écoute très souvent mon CD. Moi, j'adore Sweet 17.
(Anne-Laurence Boeglin, teacher and actress)

I must admit that i was very pleasantly surprised when i got the "Duo Sweet 17" latest CD "Alive". Although I have heard some Sperger and other Viennese bass chamber compositions over the years, this one has indeed hit the right "vibe" from the onset. Everything was nice and enlightened - exactly as i would have hoped it to be in the 18th century. Yes - this is the Viennese bass CD that one can listen to for the sake of the music and not for the sake of "proper historic bass set-up". If you have a chance, please try to get it!
(Dr. Igor Pecevski, bassist and researcher)

Thanks for your video recording. Happy and gentle music indeed, a(nother) ray of sun in the sometimes cloudy skies of daily life for all!
(Alan Woo, viola player)

(Prof. Dr. Klaus Trumpf, bass virtuoso and teacher)

(Alain Gervreau, baroque cellist and teacher)

Lovely, congratulations for your work and sensibility!
(Thierry Barbé, bass virtuoso)

Wunderschön ! E molto virtuoso!!!
(Barbara Konrad, baroque violinist)

BRAVO !!!
(Prof. Dr. Klaus Trumpf, bass virtuoso and teacher)

(Jan Buysschaert, bassist and teacher)

(Catherine Janssens, violin maker)

Great job, Korneel !! Loved the Mozart. I always wanted to know what that mess of notes sounded like ! A beautiful concert! Thanks, and tot ziens!
(Kevin Conru, bassist and art dealer)

J'écoute. Super ! Me régale.
Merci!
(Alain de Halleux, film maker)

I like you very much as musicians and especially as a person. Thank you Korneel for your deep philosophical and touching insight. I fully share your attitude towards music (Giuseppe Lupis, composer)

Thank you very much for the beautiful CD with you and Haruko. It is on the CD-player right now and filling my apartment with lovely sounds that bring my mind back to the Opera House, where especially your way of dancing interaction with the violone and with Haruko was an experience of its own value.

Superbe.
(Alain Gervreau, baroque cellist and teacher)

I love Sperger!
(Odile Simon, bassist)

(Emi Shiraki, recorder and harp player)

Thanks again for your Alive CD. I listened to it this morning. Beautiful playing, beautiful sound and natural, honest musical phrasing and expression, which i'd definitely have to agree with you are the essential virtues of this music. I'll definitely treasure your recording in my modest collection.
(Alan Woo, viola player)

(Philippe Cormann, bass soloist)

Bravo, bravo, bravo. Donnez-nous encore et encore de tels moments.

Your rendition of Codex is simply breathtaking. Your performance goes beyond anything i could possibly imagine, gifting beauty and peace to my humble composition. I am honored to have such wonderful musicians performing my work!
Thank you thank you!!!
(Giuseppe Lupis, composer)

(Guy van Waes, conductor and pianist)

Uw blog over Japan was zeer pakkend, mooi, ontroerend, verrijkend.

About the La Monnaie Bass Section

Don Quichotte (Jules Massenet) : "The production's greatest asset has to be its conductor, Marc Minkowski, who is on formidable form here... Basses sounding as if lit from below, and the rest duly adjusting to their steaming pulse".
